MISSION STATEMENT


The Purpose of the Providence Permanent Fire Relief Association shall be to afford aid and relief to sick and disabled Members, and their Widows and Children.


MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  • All permanent members of the Providence Fire Department are eligible to apply for Association membership.
  • Application for Association membership must be made within one year of the date of appointment to the Providence Fire Department*.
  • Any person who elects not to apply for membership within this time period shall become ineligible to join the Association.

  • Death of Member: $7,000.00
  • Death of Spouse: $2,500.00

  • Emergency Small Loan Fund

MEMBER SERVICES

OFFICE ASSISTANCE PROVIDED

  • Notary Public
  • Records & Research
  • Serve as a Liaison between: City Hall Departments, State & Federal Agencies, Insurance Companies, Funeral Homes, Etc...

The Association works in close harmony with the Fire Department Headquarters staff, City Hall, including the Retirement Office & Benefits Office, the RI Board of Firefighters Relief, the Officers of IAFF Local 799 along with many other local and state agencies and elected officials to help guide our members and their families with the many private decisions they face throughout their career and during retirement. CHARITABLE DONATIONS

Each year, the Association makes several donations to the charitable causes and non-profit organizations of interest to our members and their families.

FLOWERS & MEMORIALS

Floral arrangements or charitable donations are sent on behalf of the Association in memory of our deceased members in accordance with the families wishes.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The Association is actively involved in our community and schools. Each year we provide volunteers and donations to several worthy causes throughout the city which help improve the quality of life for our citizens and members.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Each year the Association sponsors several annual events such as:

  • Providence Firefighters Balls
  • Firefighters Memorial Sunday
  • 26 Week Club parties
  • Family Outing

Other special events are held from time to time to help raise money for our relief fund.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES

The Association membership dues are paid through automatic payroll deduction of $5.00 per week.

Once a member retires, his/her dues are payable in either one annual payment or quarterly installments.

Upon completion of the 35 years of Association membership you automatically become a life member and no longer pay the annual dues while retaining all the member benefits.
