BC ROBERT J. WATERS

Robert J. Waters, 76, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023. He was the beloved husband of 54 years of Karen M. (Hart) Waters. Robert had served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine during the Vietnam War. He had served with Providence Fire Department for 25 years retiring as Battalion Chief. He later served as the Chief of the Wellesley Fire Department for several years. Following his retirement, he received his Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. Afterwards, he started a consulting business. He finished his career with the Department of Homeland Security in Boston where he worked for 10 years. An artist for most of his life, Robert opened his own art studio in Pawtucket after his retirement from Homeland Security. He loved sailing, running, hiking and watching the Red Sox, Patriots and New York Giants.

He was the loving father of Sean Waters and Timothy Waters. He also leaves his siblings Ruth Schroer, Jean Risdel, Bernard J. Waters and Susan Nelson.

FF WILLIAM "RED" B. O'NEILL

Joe was a Volunteer Firefighter for North Providence before transferring to the City of Providence in the 24th training academy, serving from 08-17-64 and retiring as a Lieutenant 11-20-91.

William “Red” B. O’Neill, 83, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Claire (Lapointe) O’Neill. They were happily married for 46 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Byrne) O’Neill. William was a US Navy veteran. He was a firefighter for the city of Providence with over 30 years of service. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, William O’Neill and his wife Sheri, and Michael O’Neill and his wife Elisabeth; six grandchildren, William, Edward, Daniel, Thomas, Jack, and John O’Neill. He is also survived by his sister, Maryann Finn.

BC THOMAS O'MARA

It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of retired Battalion Chief Thomas O'Mara, 82 . Chief O'Mara proudly served the Providence Fire Department for almost 37 years getting on the job in August of 1963 and reluctantly retiring in October of 2000 due to the mandatory age restriction which weighed on him deeply.

FF GERALD PENTA

FF Penta came on the job in 1973 in the 34th Training Academy. He worked most of his career on Engine 12 of the Admiral Street Station. FF Penta was at the Providence College Fire which had a life-long impact on him. He was known to be a fun, caring and charismatic guy and loved by many.

LT. JOHN 'DAVID' PRATT

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Lieutenant John "David" Pratt who died on June 18, 2023 (Father's Day). David was a proud member of the 28th Training Academy and started his career on August 26, 1968 after serving his country in the US Army where he served as a Military Policeman in Germany in the early 1960's.

David was a proud member of the Highlanders, Engine 15 until he made Lieutenant and then worked at Fire Alarm until his retirement on July 26, 1990.

LT. JAMES A. TAMBOE JR.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of retired Firefighter, LT. James A. Tamboe. On May 11th at 4pm, Jim left us, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, to unite with his beloved Marilyn, his wife of 57 years, in their eternal peace.

Jim started the Providence Fire Department in the 13th Training Academy, on April 12, 1954, and served the city until his retirement due to a job related injury on May 25, 1974.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of retired Firefighter Thomas I. James. Firefighter James got on the job in 1987 in the 40th Training Academy and retired in 2012. Tommy "TJ" passed away at a hospice center on April 3, 2023 and we just became aware. Tommy was well known for some of his TJ-isms and was well known to many.
